Zinnov, a leading Management Consulting firm, today released its study titled ‘Cloud Partner Landscape in India’. The study highlighted that the Indian domestic IT market is going to witness a substantial growth to reach $67 billion by 2020. And within that segment, the cloud market is poised to grow the fastest to reach a mark of $14.8 billion by 2020.
Global cloud vendors are dominating the public cloud market in India with over 50% of market, followed by Indian cloud vendors with 20-25% market share, and remaining by telecom service providers and startups. To cater to huge market opportunity, majority of the vendors are aggressively focusing on key areas such as developing strong partner network, building cloud-focused talent pool, setting up local data centers and offering customized solutions.
Talking specifically about the cloud partner network, the released Zinnov study reads that currently more than 1400 partners are managing the public cloud market in India (more than $ 730 million) and the number is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. Interestingly, over 60% of public cloud market and 70% of customers are managed by 1400+ partners. Nearly 70% of partners offer solutions from multiple cloud vendors. Every 1 out of 5 partner is headquartered outside India but it is a key market for them.
Talking about the Cloud Channel Partner Ecosystem in India, Rajat Kohli, Engagement Manager, Zinnov Management Consulting said, “Over 60% of 1400+ public cloud partners in India are small in size (less than 100 employees), however, their customer base includes lot of medium and big ticket size organizations in India. Nearly 40% of partners are located in South region followed by West region. On the other side, cloud vendors are also providing extensive support to partners to help them to grow their business.”
Limited customer understanding and limited talent pool of vendors along with change in dynamics of demand side such as, new decision makers and new requirements is resulting into substantial investments in partner network by cloud vendors to drive the public cloud adoption. Vendors are offering new forms of incentive models such as consumption based, resale, referral model, etc. to their cloud partners, the report highlighted. It also read that additionally, vendors are also providing extensive support, co-marketing funds, partner centric portals helping partners to grow their business.
And last but not the least, there is a tremendous rise of ‘Born-in-the-Cloud’ partners focusing on India market i.e. more than 120 partners. Nearly 55% of ‘Born-in-the-Cloud’ partners were established after year 2012. The study read that global IT service providers are increasingly acquiring Indian cloud channel partners to enhance their cloud capabilities and the time is indeed right for these global cloud vendors to tap the cloud market opportunity in India.
