Top Australian Research Organization Chooses Mellanox InfiniBand for its High-Performance and Cloud Infrastructures

Mellanox® Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ: MLNX), a leading supplier of high-performance, end-to-end interconnect solutions, has continued its global expansion by providing Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) end-to-end FDR InfiniBand for its high-performance systems and cloud infrastructure to improve greatly performance across a wide range of research sectors. The new deployment allows CSIRO to better serve its researchers and to support new and future initiatives. The Center also acquired the Mellanox Unified Fabric Management (UFM™) software to ease its system management and to ensure maximum utilization of the compute, storage and interconnect resources.

“To accommodate our growing research operations and provide our scientists with the most efficient technology, we chose Mellanox’s FDR InfiniBand,” said Richard von Mallesch, systems manager of scientific computing platforms at CSIRO. “Since integrating Mellanox’s solutions, we’ve been able to expand our research efforts at an affordable rate while offering higher bandwidth and lower latency for better performance and improved storage capabilities.”

With more than 56 sites throughout Australia and overseas, CSIRO brings together scientists to solve some of the biggest challenges across a wide range of industries including agriculture, climate, water, digital productivity, fire security, manufacturing and resources. Within each industry, there is a tremendous amount of data processing that must be accomplished at high speeds and then stored and analyzed. Some examples of its work include CSIRO executing mining research to help miners interact with mineral deposits, and processing the analysis of brain scans for hospitals.
