The union urban development ministry will finalize the list of 100 smart cities in the country by end of April 2015. The list is likely to be sent to the cabinet next month. Mr V Naidu, was speaking here on Wednesday at a seminar on the future of Visakhapatnam as a smart city, organized by the Vizagapatanam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Visakha Smart City Forum.
The key focus of the Government would be to reinforce and install transparency and accountability in the system so as to attract private sector investment and strengthen People Public Private Partnership. Besides this, urban rejuvenation and urban governance would be strengthened. Smart Water & Sanitation and Energy conservation will be the planks of Indian cities in this century.
Reiterating his Government’s stand on the ambitious program of development of 100 smart cities, he added that the financial resources would be the key to steer this massive agenda ahead. It would also be imperative to have smart leadership not only at the helm of Central Government but also at the Municipal level who can take bold decisions in every urban area and more importantly, smart people who are willing to support smart leaders in execution of the designated plans.
