Dot Hill Introduces New 6000 Series To Deliver New Level Of Performance For Vertical Markets And Internet Of Things Applications

Dot Hill Systems Corp. (Nasdaq:HILL), a trusted supplier of enterprise-class storage systems, today announced availability of its new innovative AssuredSAN® 6000 Series arrays optimized for key vertical markets including telecommunications infrastructure, network management, video surveillance, service providers, high performance computing (HPC) and other Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
“In partnership with target vertical market customers, we studied the I/Os per second and throughput requirements driven specifically by these new IoT workloads,” said Bill Wuertz, senior vice president, product and solutions, Dot Hill. “To meet these new requirements we were able to quickly enhance our AssuredSAN controller design, demonstrating the inherent flexibility and modularity of our architecture. This allowed us to establish new levels of performance that meet and exceed the demanding requirements of today’s evolving workloads. Dot Hill has been shipping this new AssuredSAN 6000 Series with key vertical market partners and now we are making it more broadly available to all partners.”
The AssuredSAN 6000 Series solution includes new high performance dual active redundant controllers with 40GB of total system cache, which allows the array to provide up to 12GB/sec of sustained read performance and 5.7GB/sec sustained write-performance. The AssuredSAN 6554 features eight 12Gb SAS ports for host connectivity. Dot Hill AssuredSAN 6000 Series arrays also leverage Dot Hill’s patented RealStream™ software technology, a component of RealStor™, (see Dot Hill Announces RealStream Software Technology that Dramatically Increases Throughput of Bandwidth-Intensive Applications, also announced today) to support up to three times the throughput1 for applications involving complex Internet workloads.
“Dot Hill’s innovative RealStream software and this new 6004 storage array controller create an essential foundation for the real-time storage needs of complex streaming workloads and the Internet of Things,” said Brian Garrett, vice president of ESG Lab, Enterprise Strategy Group. “By wrapping this software technology in elegant ultra-density chassis options for both hard disk drive (HDD) and solid-state devices (SSDs), Dot Hill delivers petabytes of capacity and gigabytes per second of throughput without wasting valuable rack space.”
The first Dot Hill 6000 Series arrays are available with the Ultra56™ AssuredSAN ultra-density chassis, which supports up to 1.5 petabytes of capacity using 248 devices with any combination of SSDs and HDDs. In addition, AssuredSAN 6004 models meet both NEBS Level 3 carrier and MIL-STD government requirements. In the telecommunications market segment, NEBS equipment is required to meet carrier grade environmental standards for the highest possible reliability and availability. All AssuredSAN 6004 models deliver Dot Hill’s proven 99.999 percent data availability and feature platinum-rated power supplies.
“This product has been designed to meet the specific requirements of our vertical market OEM customers,” said Garrett Wein, vice president of worldwide OEM sales, Dot Hill Systems. “These innovative Dot Hill arrays will support our growth strategy and expand our footprint in these markets which demand storage performance tuned for their applications.”
